Description

This milestone, located about a quarter of a mile west of Holling Hill, dates from the mid-18th century and is made of sandstone. It stands approximately 18 inches high and has two faces with a rounded back. One face is inscribed with "RB" for Rothbury, while the other features an "H" for Hexham. The Rothbury - Hexham Turnpike was opened around 1751.
