Description
This milestone, located approximately 1 mile south of Rothbury, dates from the mid 18th century and is made of sandstone. It stands about 18 inches high and features two faces with a rounded back. One face is inscribed with "RB" for Rothbury, while the other has an "H" for Hexham. The milestone indicates the distance of 1 30, referencing the Rothbury - Hexham Turnpike, which was opened around 1751. Additionally, it is inscribed with a bench mark.
