Description

The outbuildings located approximately fifty metres north of Egton Manor House consist of a house, garages, and stables, dated 1911, with later 20th-century alterations. Built for J K Foster, the structure features herringbone-tooled sandstone on a chamfered plinth with tooled dressings and a slate roof.

The two-storey, three-bay house is flanked by a one-storey, two-bay range on the right and a one-storey, one-bay range on the left, with a one-storey, five-bay stable range positioned at right angles to the left. The gabled centre bay of the house has a recessed round-headed door beneath a semicircular hoodmould, flanked by narrow small-paned lights. Above the door is a 12-pane sash window, also beneath a flat hoodmould. Each side bay features three grouped 8-pane sashes beneath flat hoodmoulds on both floors, with first-floor and eaves strings.

A carved date panel above the door, set in a moulded triangular surround, reads "JKF 1911," while a rectangular panel in the centre gable is inscribed with "LABORARE EST ORARE." The gables are coped and topped with terminal ball and pedestal finials, and there are end cornice stacks. The flanking ranges include garage doors, and the right return has an octagonal window with glazing bars in the gable end. The stable range features four stable doors and three 6-pane pivoting windows, with coped gables and cylindrical ridge ventilators with conical caps positioned at the left and right of centre.
