Description
EGTON EGTON BRIDGE NZ8005-8105 16/8 Outbuildings approxi- mately fifty metres north of Egton Manor House GV II House, garages and stables. Dated 1911; later C20 alteration. For J K Foster. Herringbone-tooled sandstone on chamfered plinth; tooled dressings; slate roof. 2-storey, 3-bay house front, flanked by 1-storey, 2-bay range at right, and 1-storey, 1-bay range at left; 1-storey, 5-bay stable range at right-angles to left. House and flanking ranges. Gabled centre bay has recessed round-headed door beneath semicircular hoodmould between narrow small-paned lights. 12-pane sash over door beneath flat hoodmould. Bays on each side have 3 grouped 8-pane sashes beneath flat hoodmoulds on both floors. First-floor and eaves strings. Above door, carved date panel in moulded triangular surround reads: JKF 1911 Rectangular panel in centre gable inscribed: LABORARE EST ORARE Coped gables with terminal ball and pedestal finials. End cornice stacks. Flanking ranges have garage doors. Right return: octagonal window with glazing bars in gable end. Stable range. Four stable doors and three 6-pane pivoting windows. Coped gables. Cylindrical ridge ventilators with conical caps at left and right of centre.
