Description
Orchard Cottage is a house located in Egton Bridge, likely built in the early 18th century, with some modernisation from the 20th century. The building features coursed rubble sandstone on older foundations and has a pantile roof. It has two chimneys, one of which has been rebuilt in brick on a stone base. The cottage is a single storey with a four-bay front. The right-of-centre entrance is a board front door, and there is a plank door at the right end with a four-pane fixed light to its left. The remaining windows include a 20-pane sash window to the left of the front door, a two-light, 12-pane horizontal sliding sash further left, and a large six-pane sash at the left end. All window and door openings are topped with timber lintels. The right-of-centre chimney stack and an external stack at the left end are also notable features. Inside, there is a chamfer-stopped beam in the room to the left of the door, and chamfered joists are present throughout, except in the room at the right end.
