Description

This building is an outhouse, likely dating from the late 18th century, located opposite Number 2 on the south side of Fylindales, Robin Hood's Bay. It is constructed from coursed herringbone-tooled sandstone and features a pantiled roof with a stone ridge, copings, and kneelers, along with a brick chimney stack. The structure is one storey high and consists of one bay. The front includes a four-panel door and a small sash window on the right. The end chimney has been rebuilt, and there are block kneelers.

On the right side, there is a small 12-pane sash window. The river-facing side has a wooden balcony passage and a large tripartite window, which features a 12-pane central sash flanked by two 4-pane fixed sections. There is also a small door beneath a bracketed gabled hood on the right.

The low forecourt wall is made of four courses of roughly-tooled sandstone with chamfered coping. It includes a small gateway opposite the door of Number 2 and a small spur on its right. The wall ramps up with two additional courses on the right and ramps down twice towards the back of the property. This outhouse is a notable example of the external 'wash kitchens' that were common to many houses in Robin Hood's Bay, several of which have been converted into small cottages. An attached small brick coal-house is present but is not of special interest.
