Description
Bransby Cottage is a house dating from the late 18th century, constructed from roughly-tooled coursed sandstone, featuring some herringbone work. The basement front wall has incised render, and there is some brickwork in the extension. The roof is pantiled with stone ridge, copings, and kneelers, along with brick stacks.
The river-facing side of the house has two storeys and a basement, with two irregular bays. The basement includes a tripartite window with a central opening sash. On the ground floor, there is one 16-pane sash window, while the first floor has two 12-pane sashes, all with projecting cills. To the left, there is a small outhouse with a boarded door. The house features end chimneys, and the right side, which rises up the river bank, has a plinth at the base.
Access to the basement is through a boarded door, and there is a four-panel ground-floor door located up steps alongside the house. Scattered small windows are present throughout. The rear of the house, which faces The Bolts, appears to incorporate part of the former wash kitchen of Bramblewick.
