APPLETON-LE-MOORS VILLAGE STREET (south side) Manor Farmhouse and attached outbuilding to right and rear
GV II
House; former farmhouse with attached dairy and barn to right, and further attached outbuildings to rear. Mid C18 with earlier origins; altered and extended later. Dressed limestone; sandstone dressings; pantile roof; brick stacks. Cruck-framed barn to right, with coursed rubble walls and pantile roof. Originally lobby-entry plan, one room deep with kitchen in rear extension and dairy to right. 2-storey, symmetrical 2-window front. quoins. Central entrance has stone surround with triple-grooved keyblock, original door removed and replaced by half-glazed panel with glazing bars, Other windows are 4-pane sashes, All openings have raised surrounds. Coped gables, moulded kneelers and end stacks. Interior: in room to right is a high stone fireplace crudely carved and probably of earlier date than the house. It has a flat stone arch with a triple keystone supported on consoles over engaged column jambs. In the attached barn to right 1 pair of upper crucks have survived the later heightening of the roof.
