Description

Manor Farmhouse with an attached barn is a house dating from the early 18th century, with an earlier rear wing that may date back to the 16th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble limestone and features a stone slate roof with ashlar chimneys. It is designed in an L-shape, with two storeys and an attic, and has a two-bay front.

The front of the house includes 19th-century three-light wooden casements with narrow horizontal glazing bars and wooden lintels. There are two gabled roof dormers, each with two-light wooden casements. A 19th-century board door is located to the left, featuring slightly chamfered jambs and a wooden lintel. The house has two chimneys, one in the centre with a cyma recta cornice and another to the right that has been rebuilt.

The rear wing has similar casements and a door in the near bay, as well as three-light wood mullion windows and a board door in the bay beyond. This last bay contains a dairy with a cheese room above. Inside the house, there are large open fireplaces, stop-chamfered joists in the left bay, stop-chamfered spine beams, and a winder stair set in a shaped stone well. The rear wing features a central roof truss with chamfered arch-braces to the collar, while the front range has a double purlin roof with lower purlins laid square.

The barn, attached to the front left of the house, dates from the later 18th century and was re-roofed in 1948. It is built of coursed rubble stone with a stone slate roof and has vent slits, as well as a through cart entry with a projection to the front. There is also a cartshed from the 18th or 19th century attached to the rear of the house, which is not considered to have special architectural interest.
