Description

Pear Tree Cottage is a house and outbuilding, now functioning as a house, dating from the early 18th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of coursed limestone, with sandstone quoins and dressings, and features a pantile roof and rebuilt brick stacks. The original structure had a two-cell, gable-entry plan, which was later extended to include outbuildings on the left side.

The building is 1½ stories tall and has a three-window front. The central entrance consists of panelled double doors. To the right of the door, there is a three-light horizontal sliding sash window with glazing bars, and a blocked fire window at the far right. To the left of the door, there are two 16-pane sash windows. The upper windows are two-light, large-pane, horizontal sliding sashes set beneath thin timber lintels, while all lower openings feature keyed lintels.

Inside, the ground floor has quarter-round moulded beams throughout. In the room to the right, there is intact 18th-century wall panelling, an ogee-topped, chamfered bressumer over a stone fireplace with a corbelled-out moulded lintel, and a stone bench against the neck. Cupboards with six-panel doors are located on either side of the fireplace. The firehood is preserved in the first-floor room to the right, and there are studded partitions throughout the first floor.
