Description
This building, located immediately south of Orchard Cottage in Appleton-le-Moors, is a house that was originally two cottages. It dates from the 18th century but has earlier origins and has been raised and extended at a later date. The front is made of dressed limestone, while the rear features coursed rubble, with irregular sandstone quoins. The roof is covered in pantiles and has brick stacks.
The house is two stories tall and has a four-window front. There is a four-panel door located to the left of the center. The ground floor features three-light, horizontal sliding sash windows with glazing bars on both the left and right sides, while the first floor has four-pane sash windows. All lower openings have segmental arches made of vertical sets, including a blocked former doorway on the right side. Each window has stone sills, and the gables are coped with shaped kneelers. There are stacks at both ends and in the center, and the left gable wall has an enlarged fire window.
