Description
The Cottage is a house, likely dating to the early 18th century, and was raised and altered at a later date. It is constructed of squared sandstone with a sandstone rubble side wall, partly rebuilt in brick, and has a pantile roof with a brick stack. The building has a two-cell, direct-entry plan with an outshut. It is two storeys high with a two-window front. A central 20th-century door is approached by stone steps. A later inserted four-pane sash window is on the right; a three-light, large-pane horizontal sliding sash window is on the left, and a firewindow has been enlarged at the end of the left-hand side. Two two-light, large-pane horizontal sliding sashes are on the first floor. The ground floor windows have thin timber lintels. The right-hand gable has a coping and a shaped kneeler. There is a single end stack to the right. Inside, a fireplace with a quarter-round moulded bressummer and heck remains in the ground floor room to the left. A spice cupboard and a door of single raised panel with butterfly hinges are located to the left of the fireplace. Chamfered beams are exposed throughout the ground floor.
