Description
Well Garth is a house located on the south side of High Street in Thornton Dale, dating from the mid to late 18th century, with later alterations. The building features roughly dressed sandstone on a plinth, which is raised in dressed sandstone, and has a pantile roof with brick stacks. It has a 3-cell, hearth-passage plan and is two stories tall with a four-bay front.
The entrance is a left-of-centre six-panel door with two glazed lights. To the right of the door, there are two three-light casement windows, and to the left, there is one similar window along with a fixed-light firewindow at the far left end. On the first floor, there are four two-light casements, with a small inserted casement at the end left. All original openings have tripartite keyed lintels. The ground floor windows have painted timber sills, while the first-floor windows feature painted stone sills. The right gable is coped and has a shaped kneeler, with stacks at both ends and the center of the building.
