Description
Beckside Farmhouse, with an attached cottage and outbuilding, is a farmhouse with extensions built in 1813, as indicated by the date on the overdoor panel featuring the initials J & M.V. The extensions at the rear are slightly later, and the projecting cottage on the left is likely from the mid-19th century. The building is constructed from coursed, squared tooled sandstone and has pantiled roofs with stone copings, kneelers, and stacks. Both the farmhouse and the cottage are two storeys high and consist of two bays each. The farmhouse features an altered, part-glazed door and 20th-century pivoted windows beneath deep wedge lintels with chevron tooling and projecting cills. The cottage has a four-panel door with an overlight and sash windows with glazing bars. The roofs are swept and have copings on moulded kneelers, with corniced end chimneys. The rear elevation includes a one-storey kitchen extension on the right with a plinth and a through-passage door, suggesting the possibility of an earlier farmhouse on a different alignment. A longer one-storey left wing contains a boiler-house and a cross-gabled cowhouse at the end.
Inside, there is a winder stair with stick balusters and six-panel doors.
