Description
Hollins Farmhouse is a farmhouse from the 18th century that was refurbished and extended in the early 19th century. It is constructed from finely-coursed squared tooled sandstone. The roof has been renewed with concrete pantiles, except for the 1-storey section, which has clay pantiles, and features stone copings, kneelers, and stacks.
The building consists of three parts: on the right, there is a 1-storey, 1-bay section with a 16-pane sash window in the position of the door. The centre section is 2-storey and has 2 bays with 20-pane sash windows. The taller left extension, also 2 storeys and 2 bays, features a 6-panel door with a Gothick fanlight in the second bay and 16-pane sashes. All openings are topped with tall wedge lintels that have extended shoulders and projecting cills. The gable copings are on curved kneelers, and there are corniced stacks at the ends of the centre block.
On the right return, there is a datestone reading I.W. J.C. 1692 set below the eaves, which may have been brought from another location. The building has a 2-storey right rear wing and a 1-storey left rear wing, which have a variety of windows including fixed lights, a Yorkshire sash, and modern casements with glazing bars. In the rear wall of the early 19th-century block, there is a stair window with a 2-centred head and Gothick interlaced glazing bars.
Inside, the farmhouse features 6-panel doors, panelled shutters, and a panelled reveal at the front door. There is an attractive dog-leg staircase with a wide angle curve, two fluted square balusters per tread, and carved tread ends.
