Description

Boulby Grange Farmhouse dates from around 1840, with a slightly later wing added to the right side. Later mid-to-late 19th-century extensions were built to the wing and the farmhouse itself, with the wing and its extensions now functioning as a separate house. The farmhouse is constructed from dressed sandstone, with a deep stepped plinth. It has a Welsh slate roof, while the wing and extensions have Lakeland slate. The building features stone ridge and gable copings.

The farmhouse is two storeys and three bays wide. A central doorway, approached by three stone steps, has a six-panel door and an overlight with glazing bars, set within a decorative doorcase which includes a fluted sunburst panel intended to resemble a fanlight, and a dentil-moulded open-pedimented quasi-Corinthian surround. Large canted bay windows with cornices are present on the ground floor. The windows are mostly new sashes with glazing bars, featuring keyed lintels and painted sills. A slightly recessed two-bay wing has a late 20th-century casement window in what was an original opening on the ground floor. Other windows are sashes with glazing bars, with renewed sashes on the first floor, also featuring keyed lintels and painted sills. The roofs have a shallow pitch and corniced end stacks.

At the rear of the wing are a lower two-storey, two-bay extension with a gabled porch, and a single-storey, four-bay outhouse range. The rear staircase wing to the farmhouse has a straight parapet and a round-headed sash window with intersecting glazing bars. Inside the farmhouse, the staircase has turned balusters and handrails with ramped ends.
