Description

This is a barn with an attached horse engine house, built in the late 18th century, with the engine house and some alterations dating from the 19th century, and a 20th-century addition. The structure is made of rubblestone brought to course and features pantile roofs with stone kneelers, copings, and ridges. The barn has three bays and was originally designed with cow stalls and a loft above; the engine house is located on the south side. The building has quoins, and the north side is mostly obscured by the 20th-century brick addition, which is not of special interest. On the right side, there is a board stable door set in a quoined surround, with slit vents above it. The rear of the engine house has a semi-octagonal end supported by stone piers, while the barn features another board stable door in a quoined surround on the left. The right return has slit vents, and the left return includes a loft opening with a stone surround. Inside, the barn contains 19th-century braced king-post roof trusses and staggered butt purlins, along with large-scantling beams in the engine house.
