Description

Church House Farmhouse and Church House Cottage is a farmhouse and cottage that underwent rebuilding in the late 18th century, around 1780, with some 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with a herringbone tool finish and has a 20th-century interlocking tile roof.

The garden elevation features two storeys with a layout of two bays, three bays, and two bays, where the central block is taller and projects forward. The original openings on the ground floor and first floor of the central block have lintels with raised keystones and projecting sills. The central block has blind windows in the center bay, while the outer bays have wider three-light, nine-pane windows with central side-sliding lights. In the two right-hand bays, there is an inserted door on the left and a six-pane sash window on the right, with two late 20th-century windows above. The two left-hand bays, which belong to Church House Cottage, feature a 20th-century porch on the right that conceals the original doorway, along with 20th-century windows.

The entire range has shaped kneelers and stacks at the gables, with the left-hand stack rebuilt in brick and the right-hand stack raised in brick. At the rear, the central block has doorways on the right and left bays, with two windows on each floor and a stair window, all featuring raised keystones to their lintels. The nine-pane stair window is original, while the others are from the 20th century. The right-hand block is made of 20th-century brick.

Inside the farmhouse, there is a large open fireplace in the right room, complete with a timber bressumer and a moulded cornice, similar to that found at East Green Beck Farmhouse. The interior also includes old four-pane doors and a dog-leg closed-string staircase with stick balusters, square newels, and a moulded handrail that is ramped at the top.
