Description
This is a barn with an attached engine house located at Gilder Tofts, to the north of the house. The barn dates from the early 19th century, while the engine house was added in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared stone with a herringbone tool finish and features a pantile roof with stone coping and ridge. The building is one storey high with a loft and consists of six bays.
On the farmyard side, there is a stable door positioned to the right of the center, with vents to the left. At the left end, there are later wooden steps leading up to a boarded loft door, which has a small opening with a board shutter to its right. The eaves feature a decorative band, and there are block kneelers.
At the rear, the engine house is added to the left and has stone piers and half-height stone walls on the side bays. The engine house conceals a blocked byre door and three small windows to its left. The rest of the barn is obscured by a 20th-century wooden lean-to, which is not of special interest.
