Description
Ingleby Greenhow Post Office and The Butchers is a house and three cottages, now converted into two houses, one housing a post office and the other a butcher's shop. The building dates from the 18th century and consists of two sections, with alterations made in the early 19th century and later. It is constructed of coursed squared stone, some of which features herringbone tooling, and has a pantile roof with stone coping and ridges, along with stone stacks.
The structure is two storeys high and has a total of six bays, with the Post Office side featuring a four-panel door and three windows to the left (the second of which was formerly a door), two windows to the right, and four on the first floor. The Butchers side has a door with six raised and fielded panels, two windows to the left (the second also formerly a door), one window to the right, and two on the first floor. The fourth bay windows are small-pane metal-framed, while all other windows are 12-pane side-sliding sashes, each with projecting stone sills and plain stone lintels above the ground-floor openings. The eaves have a decorative band, and there are block kneelers. The chimney stacks are shouldered and corniced, located at the ends and with three on the ridge. The rear of the building features various doors and windows, some of which have old lintels.
