Description
The farm buildings to the west of Holme Farmhouse consist of a cart lodge and byre with a loft above, dating from the mid to late 18th century. The structure has been added to and altered over time. It is built from coursed squared stone with herringbone tooling, featuring a pantile roof at the front and concrete tiles at the rear, along with stone coping and ridges. The building is two storeys high and has three bays, with a single-storey outbuilding added on the left.
On the left side, there is a segmental-arched cart entry, next to an Edward VII wall letter box. To the right of the cart entry, a flight of stone steps leads up to a boarded loft door, which has a small boarded opening to its left. Further to the right, there is a wide boarded door with an inserted window, and a sliding door to its right, along with a six-pane window above on the left. The eaves feature a hollow-moulded band, and there are shaped kneelers at the right end and a block kneeler at the left end. The addition on the left has a boarded door and a block kneeler at its left end. The rear of the building includes a 20th-century brick outshut that is not of special interest, along with a hollow-moulded eaves band and shaped kneelers. The left return features a bird hole in the gable. Inside, the cart lodge has a large chamfered cross-beam with triangular stops.
