Description

Whitbygate House is a late 18th-century house located in Thornton Dale, Whitby. The front of the house is constructed of dressed sandstone with painted, chamfered, and chiselled quoins, and is topped by a pantile roof with brick stacks. It is built on a central stairhall plan, with one room’s depth, and includes a rear service extension. The house is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front. The central doorway features six raised and fielded panels above a divided overlight. Throughout the house, windows are 12-pane sashes. Painted lintels with grooved triple keystones are above each opening, and all windows have painted stone sills. A cornice runs at eaves level, and there are coped gables and shaped kneelers. End stacks are present.
