Description
The Halifax Building Society and The Trophy Room is a house that has been converted into an office and shop. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone some alterations and subdivision. The building is constructed from squared sandstone, featuring tooled sandstone quoins and dressings, and has a pantile roof with brick stacks, one of which has been rebuilt.
The structure originally had a three-cell, hearth-passage plan and is two stories high with a three-window front. The entrance, located to the right of the center, has a 20th-century board door flanked by four-pane sash windows. There is a remodelled opening on the left end that features a 20th-century concrete keyblock lintel above a 20th-century shop front. The first floor also has four-pane sashes, with raised keyblock lintels above all openings and painted stone sills beneath the windows. The building has coped gables and shaped kneelers, with brick stacks positioned at the end right and right of center, all beneath a steeply-pitched roof.
