Description

The Gift Box and The Welcome Cafe are two houses that have been converted into a shop and cafe. They date from the early 19th century and were subdivided in the 20th century. The building is made of squared limestone with painted raised and chamfered quoins, topped by a pantile roof and rebuilt brick stacks.

The structure is two storeys high with an attic on the left side and two storeys on the right, featuring a six-window front. On the centre right, there are half-glazed double doors set back in panelled reveals, which are topped by a round arch with rosette and flute moulding. The doorcase includes a cornice and entablature supported by fluted pilasters, with rosettes on a vestigial frieze.

There are 20th-century shop fronts on both the left and right sides. The centre section, which was once a rear access passage, has a six-panel, part-glazed door beneath a grooved triple-keyed lintel. The left shop front retains original lintels. The first-floor windows consist of sashes on the right and 12-pane sashes on the left, all featuring grooved, triple-keyed lintels. The building has a moulded eaves course and three 20th-century gabled dormers on the left side. The gables are coped with a shaped kneeler on the left. There are stacks at the end, centre, and both centre left and right. The building is included for its group value.
