Description
Espsyke Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-18th century, with rebuilding or refronting of the main house occurring in the third quarter of the 18th century, along with some 20th-century alterations. The building features finely herringbone-tooled coursed large sandstone and has a pantiled roof with stone ridge, copings, and kneelers, as well as brick chimneys.
The layout follows a hearth-passage plan. The older right section of the farmhouse is two storeys high with two bays, while the main house is also two storeys but has two wide bays. The entrance includes a top-glazed six-panel through-passage door set under a wedge lintel with a raised keystone, which is slightly overlapped on the left by the projecting main house.
The windows consist of three-light small-paned 20th-century casements, with the exception of a nine-pane fixed light above the door and a 19th-century tripartite window with a central opening sash located at the first floor on the left. The windows in the main house feature projecting stone cills, and those on the ground floor have wedge lintels with tall projecting keystones. The roof is fairly high-pitched, with block kneelers and end chimneys on the house and to the right of the downhouse.
