Description
Moorgate Farmhouse and attached outbuildings is a farmhouse, barn, and stable dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, certainly before 1810. The main house is constructed of finely-coursed sandstone that is nearly ashlar in quality, while the outbuildings are made of rougher, more uneven stone. The roofs are covered with pantiles and feature stone ridges, copings, and kneelers, with rebuilt brick chimneys. The farmhouse has a hearth-passage plan with a lower downhouse and an overall linear layout. The main house is two storeys tall with two wide bays, while the downhouse is also two storeys but has one wide bay and a narrow passage bay. There is a 20th-century door at the passage entrance. All the windows are 20th-century, three-light small-paned casements, except for one two-light casement located above the door. The house features block kneelers and end chimneys, one on the house and another at the left of the downhouse. To the right, there is a two-storey barn that is blank on its front, and a one-storey extension that includes a stable door. On the left, there is a one-storey stable with a Yorkshire sash window and a stable door. Information about the property comes from a map dated 1810 in the Mulgrave Estate office.
