Description

Horse House Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the later 18th century. It is constructed of coursed herringbone-tooled sandstone and features a pantiled roof with stone stacks, copings, and kneelers. The building has two storeys and four bays, with the left bay previously serving as an attached cottage. The farmhouse section has a central door that is now blocked, flanked by 16-pane sash windows. Above the door, there is a window recess that has been painted with a trompe l'oeil effect. To the left, there is a top-glazed six-panel door with a 16-pane sash window above it. All openings have deep wedge lintels that are tooled and margined, with large bordered keystones, and those on the first floor extend to the eaves. A ramped wall separates the old cottage part from the rest of the front. The roof has a moderate pitch with flat copings, moulded kneelers, and chimneys located at the ends and at the former junction. A 20th-century window has been inserted in the right return.
