Description

This building is a farm structure located approximately 25 metres northwest of Atkinson Wood Farmhouse, featuring attached pigsties and privies. It dates from the early 19th century and has been altered over time. The construction consists of coursed, squared stone with herringbone tooling, topped with pantile roofs that have stone kneelers, copings, and ridges.

The main part of the building is a two-storey, three-bay barn or byre, with a lower single-storey, four-bay range on the left side and pigsties on the front right, which are connected to the privies at the back. The main range includes a central stable door and square vents.

The right bay is obscured by lean-to pigsties that extend beyond the barn and feature board gates in the front yard walls. The lower range on the left has a plinth and a blocked doorway, which is concealed by a 20th-century stable wing that is not of special interest. The building has eaves bands and block kneelers.

At the rear, the main range has a blocked central door and rectangular vents. There are two doorways leading to the privy block, and the right side of the main range includes a board loft opening.
