Description

EASBY EASBY NZ 50 NE (north side) 7/4 Easby Hall 23.6.66 - II Small country house; early C19 and later C19. Sandstone ashlar, Welsh slate roof. 3 builds: early C19 west wing and later C19 east wing added to rear of original house to form U-plan; staircase tower (perhaps castellated when east wing was added) projects at centre rear. Earlier buildings in Classical style, east wing Jacobean style. Main south front 2 storeys, 5 wide bays, the 3 inner bays project slightly and have fluted bands at first floor level and at cills. Central bay projects again, is defined by giant fluted pilasters and holds Roman Doric tetrastyle porch with wrought-iron balcony over and later glazed infill; fluted frieze. Later C19 sash windows, in plain reveals, except first floor centre with floral carved surround. Top dentil cornice and relief-balustraded parapet with small central pediment holding oval panel with floral carving. One storey set back right bay. Interior refurbished in later C19 but original window shutters remain.
