Description

The farm buildings to the north of Baysdale Abbey consist of a barn, stables, and cartsheds, dated 1818 but possibly built in the late 18th century. The barn was raised by one storey slightly later. The structure is made of coursed sandstone rubble, with a coursed squared stone upper storey on the barn. It features pantiled roofs with stone ridges and kneelers, forming a U-shaped range around a courtyard that faces west.

The north barn is two storeys high and includes two boarded doors, two part-slatted windows, and a Yorkshire sash window on the ground floor, as well as a boarded loft door and a pivoted casement window above. It has a hipped roof and a later lean-to kennel extension on the left. The other ranges are single storey.

There is a central round-arched passage entrance with a dated keystone, cut voussoirs, and impost blocks. To the right of the entrance are two part-slatted windows, and to the left are a double cart door and a Dutch door. The south wing has similar openings and also features a hipped roof, with hip copings resting on circular kneelers. There is a one-storey east extension from the barn, designed in a similar style.
