Description
Baysdale Abbey Bridge is a Grade II* listed structure located over Baysdale Beck. It dates back to the medieval period, with the parapet possibly from the 17th century. The bridge is constructed from finely-coursed dressed stone, while the parapet is made from coarser stone featuring herringbone tooling above a roll-moulded band. It has a single wide two-centred arch, which includes a later recessed strengthening arch beneath and an internal plinth. The coping of the parapet consists of large squared blocks. The bridge has a roughly serpentine shape, widening at the west end and narrowing at the east end, where it is supported by two taller square piers that have square domed caps on swept bases.
