Description
Eve Cottage is an early 18th-century house located on Chapel Street in Robin Hood's Bay. It is constructed from herringbone-tooled or pecked coursed sandstone and features a pantiled roof with stone copings and a brick chimney stack. The east entrance side has two storeys and an attic, with two bays; the right bay is partly hidden by a rendered first-floor addition that covers the passage to the sea front. The building has coved eaves, a six-panel door on the right, a 16-pane sash window on the left that has been replaced, and a 19th-century four-pane sash window above.
There is a one-storey south extension at basement level that includes a terrace with a parapet above. The south front rises three storeys with two bays and has a gable end elevation. It features irregular small-paned modern casements, a square kneeler on the right, and a curved kneeler on the left, along with a low brick end chimney. The south basement extension has a boarded door beneath a bracketed hood on the right and a Yorkshire sash window with two lights and top transom panes, as well as a shortened fire window on the left. The end piers are topped with ball finials on the parapet above.
The sea front side also has three storeys and two bays, with an irregular layout, a boarded door on the right, and similar windows. Inside, the cottage features panelling in the bedroom, which includes a segment-headed corner cupboard with H-hinges. The ceiling beams are moulded upstairs and chamfered below, and there is one early-Victorian fireplace.
