Description

Milestone at the junction with Hightown Road, dating from the 18th century. It is made of painted stone and has a square section with a rounded top. On the front, there are remains of incised letters that are now outlined in paint, reading: 'To, RINGWOOD, 2½ ROMSEY, 15, SOUTHAMPTON, 17, MILES'. This milestone is located on the route of the Romsey and Ringwood Turnpike, established in 1758.
