Description

Aira Farmhouse and the adjoining barns are a house, former house, and two barns, likely built in the late 17th century with later additions. The structure is made of stone rubble and has slate roofs. The southeast elevation features a two-storey, three-bay farmhouse, a three-bay former house to the right, and small barns at each end. The farmhouse has sashed windows with single glazing bars and horns, with stone lintels over the ground floor windows, a fire window, and a cross-axial stack on the left. The former house has window openings without frames, a fire window on the right with a small light above it, and an entrance in the central bay. The barn to the northeast includes ventilation slots, while the rear of both houses has outshuts under catslide roofs. The northeast barn has a large entrance, and the southwest barn features a projecting range at the end, along with an entrance and a pitching hole to the left. Inside the former house, there are chamfered beams, a fireplace with a cambered beam and a spice cupboard recess, and a blocked three-light chamfered wooden-mullioned window that is rebated for glazing at the opposite end. The rear outshut contains a winding stair with timber cladding, and there are two collar and tie beam trusses with chamfering.
