Description
Sale Farmhouse and the adjoining byre/barns date back to 1669, as indicated by the datestone set into the rear wall. The building features rendered rubble walls topped with a graduated greenslate roof and has red sandstone ashlar chimney stacks. It is two storeys high and consists of four bays, with the byre/barns flanking the main structure under a common roof. There are rear extensions that create an overall T-shape. The farmhouse has a plank door and sash windows with glazing bars, all set in painted stone surrounds, which replace previously blocked 2-light 17th-century stone-mullioned windows. The barn/byres have plank doors and a casement window on the right side. Inside the house, there is a heck partition and a boxed firebeam. The building underwent alterations in the 18th century.
