Description
Lowside is a farmhouse and adjoining barn/byre dating from the early 17th century, with alterations from the early 19th century. The building features whitewashed rubble on projecting plinth stones and has a graduated greenslate roof with two circular chimney stacks. It is two storeys high and consists of two bays, with a long lower barn/byre to the right; the two nearest bays have been incorporated into the house. There is a 20th-century door set in a stone surround, along with 2- and 3-light 19th-century flat stone-mullioned windows that have glazing bars. To the extreme right, there is a small fire window with a chamfered surround. The nearest door to the house is a plank door under a stucco hoodmould. A window to the left features an early surround with a wooden lintel, while there are 20th-century windows above. The barn has a plank door and slit vents. The rear of the building includes a cart entrance, another plank door, and 20th-century windows. An outshut at the rear of the farmhouse has two-light chamfered stone-mullion windows. The interior once had a lintel over the dairy door dated 1608, which has since been removed.
