Description
A farmhouse with an adjoining cottage, dated 1662 on an interior beam, with a late 18th-century extension and alterations. The construction is whitewashed rubble, with the extension being whitewashed roughcast, all under graduated greenslate roofs. The extension has a coped gable and kneeler to the left, and stone and rendered chimney stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three bays, with a taller two-bay extension to the right, which now forms Blake Hill Cottage. Blake Hill Farmhouse features a 20th-century door within a 17th-century stone gabled porch, containing internal side seats and a recess. It has sash windows in 18th-century painted stone surrounds, with double windows on both floors to the right of the entrance. A small fire window is situated under a wooden lintel to the extreme right. Inside, the farmhouse has a beamed ceiling, including one dated beam, and an inglenook with a fire beam. Blake Hill Cottage has a six-panel door set within a chamfered stone surround and an 18th-century gabled porch with side seats. Its sash windows have glazing bars, with double windows to the left of the entrance. The passage of the cottage contains a built-in carved and panelled court cupboard inscribed B.S. 1691, believed to have originated from the farmhouse. An adjoining barn to the left is not of particular interest.
