Description
The former house and barn located northeast of Southerfell Cottage dates back to 1695, as indicated by the inscription above the entrance. It is constructed from a mix of Skiddaw slate and cobble rubble, with an extension made of squared blocks of mixed slate and sandstone, all covered by a common graduated greenslate roof. The building is two storeys tall and features three bays, with a three-bay extension to the right and a barn to the left. The main house includes two plank doors set in alternate-block chamfered surrounds, one of which has a dated lintel. The upper floor has casement windows framed in sandstone. The extension to the right has similar details but lacks chamfers. The barn features two round-arched entrances and an enlarged casement window. This structure is listed partly for its group value with Southerfell Cottage.
