Description
The east gateway to St Michael and All Angels Churchyard is a gateway, likely built in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from sandstone blocks and features chamfered coping at the top, which rises to create a gable above the entrance. The entrance is framed by a continuous stop-chamfered surround that includes an inscription in Roman lettering on the soffit, which reads: "THIS PLACE THESE WALLS & ALL AROUND REVERE DO NOUGHT UNHOLY OR UNSEEMLY HERE." A 20th-century wooden gate is present. This structure is included for its group value.
