Description
The entrance gateway and walls to the north of Muncaster Castle date from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The gateway is constructed of ashlar stone and features a parapet, with rough-dressed quoins and surrounds. The walls are made of random rubble with splayed sections and chamfered copings. The gateway has a taller central section that displays a coat-of-arms and Pennington badges above a semicircular-headed carriage arch. It is adorned with wrought-iron gates that feature scrollwork panels. Square piers with caps are located at the inner ends of the walls.
