Description
Cumblands is a farmhouse built in the late 18th century, with some later alterations. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings, some stucco, and has a slate roof. The northeast elevation features two storeys with an attic and three bays, following a central entrance plan. The building has an ashlar plinth, a top frieze, and quoins. The windows have plain ashlar surrounds, with those on the ground floor featuring brick flat arches. The windows are sashed with glazing bars, while the 19th-century gabled dormer windows also have sashes with single glazing bars and horns. The entrance is designed with an aedicule and a pediment. There are gable-end stacks, and the southwest return includes a two-storey wing with a blocked elliptical-headed cart entrance. The rear has plain sashed windows with horns, a six-panel door with an overlight, and a segmental-headed cart entrance to the wing, which has a sashed window with single glazing bars and horns above. This building is a rare example of brickwork in the area.
