Description

Wayside Cottage, along with an adjoining cottage and buildings of G Usher and Sons, dates from the 17th century or early 18th century and has been altered over time. The structures are made of roughcast stone with slate roofs and consist of two houses and outbuildings. They are two storeys high and have five bays, with the fourth and fifth bays being lower. The ground floor features dripcourses, and the windows are casements; the third bay includes a fire window with small-paned fixed glazing. A gabled porch is located at the second bay, which has a glazed inner door. The fifth bay has an entrance with a recessed half-glazed door. The first three bays make up Wayside Cottage, which contains a spice cupboard with a door and plank and muntin partitions. There are gable-end stacks present. The building to the right is constructed of stone rubble and has a Welsh slate roof, featuring a large inserted entrance with a slated lintel and a smaller entrance to the left, as well as an entrance with a square opening above to the right. A small end building is plastered at the front with a stone gable end and has old roof slates, a window, and a small opening, along with a gable-end pitching hole.
