Description

Walker Ground Cottage is a house likely dating from the 17th or early 18th century, situated on Vicarage Lane in Hawkshead. It is constructed from stone rubble with a slate roof. The house is two storeys high, originally with two bays. The windows are 20th-century casements, and there is a fire window on the left-hand side. First-floor windows are situated within gabled half-dormers. The right gable end is hipped with a decorative gablet, and there is a stack on the left gable end. The right-hand return has casement windows and the main entrance. The gablet features a three-light, wooden, chamfered-mullioned window with leaded glazing. The rear of the property faces the road and includes a gabled wing, a return entrance, and a gabled dormer window to the right. The interior retains an upper cruck truss with a collar and windbrace, along with chamfered beams. Other original features include a plank and muntin partition, a fireplace with a corbelled lintel, and a spice cupboard.
