Description
Cragside Cottage is a house and outbuilding, now divided into three separate dwellings, dating to the 17th century with alterations and additions. The building is constructed of sandstone rubble with irregular plinth and ashlar dressings, some quoins, and has Welsh slate roofs. It is arranged in an L-shape.
The left projecting wing is raised and features a 20th-century porch on the left side. It has two-light windows to the right, set beneath flat stone lintels, and a two-light stone-mullioned window in the gable peak, with an interrupted label mould. The main part of the house to the right has half-glazed doors in the second and third bays, the left one beneath a flat stone lintel and the right one partially obscured by vegetation. The fenestration is irregular, containing two- and three-light windows, some with stone mullions and renewed glazing. Some windows are blocked; fragments of label moulds are visible. Three ridge chimneys are present.
The outbuilding has three late 19th-century sash windows with flat stone lintels and slightly-projecting stone sills, along with one 20th-century three-light casement. It has a low-pitched roof and a tall ridge chimney.
Inside, a large ground-floor room has a high-quality ceiling featuring stout, chamfered beams and joists, as well as 17th-century panelling. Another ground-floor room has a heavy chamfered beam. A 20th-century extension to the left is not considered to be of historical interest.
