Description

Low Whinhowe Farmhouse and the adjoining store are likely from the 17th century, with later additions and alterations. The farmhouse is built of coursed slate rubble with quoins on a plinth, while the house itself is stuccoed. It features a graduated slate roof, with the original house having a stair outshut at the rear and an additional outshut added to the rear of a 19th-century extension. The farmhouse has two storeys and consists of four bays. There is a plank door in a gabled porch, with a fixed window to the left and two sash windows to the right; above, there are three more sash windows. The house has two end chimneys, with the right-hand one originally projecting. The two-bay 19th-century extension on the right has a 20th-century part-glazed door and a casement window to the right on each floor, along with a corbelled end chimney. All windows, except for the ground floor right window, have glazing bars. The adjoining store, also likely from the 17th century, shares the same roofline as the house. Inside, the ground floor room to the left is separated from the passage by a plank and muntin partition, while the room to the right of the passage features a chamfered fire beam and original joists, along with plank doors.
