Description
Dunster County Primary School was built in 1871 and designed by architect J P St Aubyn. The building is constructed from dressed and snecked red sandstone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings. It has plain tile roofs with gables that include footstones to the plate and rubble side chimneys. The school has a roughly 'L' shaped plan and is two storeys tall.
On the south and east gables, there is one range of windows, which includes casements and 3-light lancets on the first floor with relieving arches, as well as 1, 3, and 4-light Caernarvon-arched windows on the ground floor. A half-hipped lean-to porch with cusped bracing is located at the angle of the building. A notable feature of the school is the heavily corbelled corners on the south gable, which allow for single lights at the ground floor corners.
