Description

The lodge at the entrance to the Manor House Hotel, located at Week Cross in North Bovey, was built in 1907 by architect Detmar Blow for Viscount Hambledon. Constructed from snecked granite blocks with Bath stone details around the doors and windows, it features a clay tile roof with three shaped gable ends and central grouped axial octagonal granite chimneys. The building has a T-shaped plan with a rear wing and a central entrance, standing two storeys high.

The symmetrical facade includes a central projecting two-storey canted battlemented porch. This porch has a round-headed doorway flanked by engaged columns on pedestals, leading to a four-centred arch. Above the doorway, there is a two-light arch-headed mullion window, with a string course above it and carved gargoyles at each corner. The porch rises above the eaves, topped with an embattled parapet that is semi-circular at the center and features moulded coping.

On the ground floor, there are two-light arch-headed mullion windows with hoodmoulds on either side of the porch. Carved lead rain-water heads are located at both ends of the building. Each gable end has a ground floor semi-circular bay with a five-light mullion window featuring arched heads and battlemented detailing above. Above this, there is a three-light arch-headed mullion window with a hoodmould.
