Description

Inner Lodge is a lodge gatehouse built in the mid-19th century for Lord Sudeley. It features Flemish bond brickwork, stone dressings, and a Welsh slate roof. The structure has two-storey wings on either side of a higher central cross range, which includes an arch with a room above.

From the side facing away from Toddington Manor, the windows are mullioned with trefoil heads and diamond leaded lights, complete with hoodmoulds. On the left side, there is a rectangular bay with a window that has a hoodmould and a hipped roof, alongside a 4-light window to the right. Above this, a 3-light mullion and transom window rises into a brick dormer, also featuring a hoodmould and a parapet gable, with another 3-light window to the right.

The left end has a parapet gable with a ridge chimney, and another chimney is located on the mid-slope to the right of the dormer, featuring a moulded cap. To the right, there is a slight projection with a wide archway that has a 4-centred arch, a moulded string course, and a 3-light window above, which is topped with a plain shield in a moulded square surround. This section also has a parapet gable and a bellcote at the apex with a trefoil head in the gable.

Further to the right, there is a rectangular projection with a single-light window, and the roof is hipped back to a tall octagonal turret at the right corner of the central block, which has a lancet window at the bottom. The eaves are moulded stone, and the roof has a swept stone pyramid shape with a leaf finial. Set back to the right, there are 3-light windows on each floor, with the wall extending up into a gable that features a lancet window and finials at both the base and apex of the parapet gable. The right end also has a parapet gable with a gable chimney.
