Description

Ivy Cottage is a house that dates from the 17th century, 18th century, and has elements from the late 19th or early 20th century. It features timber-framing with rendered infill set on a coursed, squared stone plinth, along with coursed, squared stone and irregular-bond brickwork. The walls are faced with vertical barked poles and topped with a stone slate roof. The building has an 'L' plan layout, consisting of a two-storey block with three windows, a single-room thick design, and a rear wing. There is also a single-room, one-and-a-half-storey extension at one end and a single-storey wing at right angles.

On the east face, the right return shows framing that is four panels high, with long, straight braces extending from the sill to the ends. The central entrance features a six-panel door with a rectangular light above it, flanked by three-light casements with leaded lights. Above this, there are two similar windows and a two-light window in between. A brick chimney is positioned against the left gable.

The left lower wing has a stone wall that rises into a tall stone dormer, which has a brick chimney at its apex. The left return features a stone ground floor with brick above, and there are two-light casements with timber lintels on each level, topped by a half-hip. A single-storey link connects to a section with single-panel framing over a plinth, which includes a two-light casement and a boarded door. Beyond this is a slightly taller wing, also with barked poles over a plinth, featuring diamond decoration, a single casement, a three-light casement, and double doors that are faced as a wall, along with two louvred ventilators on the ridge. Ivy Cottage forms a group with the nearby church and manor.
