Description

NORTH BOVEY SX 78 SW 4/243 Youlden Farmhouse - GV II

Farmhouse. Probably mid/late C17 altered in C20. Rendered granite rubble walls with rendered stone stack to right-hand gable end with dripmoulds. Thatched roof to front, raised above first floor windows, slated to rear, with gable ends. Appears to be a 2-room plan house with a central passage, the lower right-hand room is probably the kitchen and the left-hand room the parlour, both rooms heated from gable and stacks. Said to have had staircase beside fireplace at each end (1 now removed) which suggests it was either originally a pair of 1-room plan cottages or converted into a pair of cottages. Rear C19 outshut along full length of house. 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3 window front of C20 casements, 2- and 3-lights with glazing bars. Two 3-light casements on ground floor with C20 plank door roughly central between them. Stone outshut against left gable end. Interior not inspected but roof timbers known to be C19/C20 replacements.
