Description
Youlden Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the mid to late 17th century and was altered in the 20th century. It features rendered granite rubble walls and a rendered stone stack on the right-hand gable end, complete with dripmoulds. The front has a thatched roof, which is raised above the first-floor windows, while the rear is slated and has gable ends. The layout appears to be a two-room plan house with a central passage; the lower right-hand room is likely the kitchen, and the left-hand room is the parlour, both of which are heated from the gable and stacks. It is said that there were staircases beside the fireplaces at each end, although one has since been removed, indicating that the house may have originally been a pair of one-room plan cottages or converted from such. There is a rear 19th-century outshut that runs the full length of the house. The farmhouse is two storeys tall and has an asymmetrical front with three windows, featuring 20th-century casements with two and three lights and glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are two three-light casements and a roughly central 20th-century plank door. A stone outshut is located against the left gable end. The interior has not been inspected, but it is known that the roof timbers are replacements from the 19th or 20th century.
