Description

The gateway, dating from around 1840 to 1850, is located south of the Sandy Park Inn in Drewsteignton. It is constructed from granite ashlar. The gate posts that flank the drive to Furlong are square in shape, featuring plain projecting plinths and cornices topped with low pyramid caps. The side walls, built in the same style, extend a short distance to similar terminal piers and curve slightly forward. Between the right terminal pier and the corner of the Sandy Park Inn is an original elliptical wrought-iron gate. This gateway, along with another at Furlong Mill, is linked to the mid-19th century rebuilding of Furlong.
